Being Bullish

Being driven by the IT industry which has been serving "bread and butter" to most of the youth population oflate, I sometimes get a feeling that we are being driven by a "bullish trend" every once in a while.

Let's find out what the dictionary has to say by meaning "being bullish":
1. like a bull.
2. obstinate or stupid.
3. Commerce.
a. rising in prices.
b. characterized by favorable economic prospects.
c. Informal. regarding a particular investment as potentially profitable (often fol. by on): We're still bullish on treasury bonds.
4. hopeful; optimistic.

I'll recall a saying in Kannada (one of Gad sir's favourites) which goes like this "ಗೆದ್ದ ಎತ್ತಿನ ಬಾಲ ಹಿಡಿಯುವುದು" which literally translates to "Holding the tail of the bull which wins". ;-) I don't say that we should not be doing it, but would like to add that we should not be doing it "all the time". I don't want to call it "sheepish" as the need here is to make a profitable investment as in meaning 3(b) above. At times, it can be a stupid investment though.

During my schooling days, I lacked the prudence that I'd one day landup in a IT giant. I still remember the days in my PU, when IT began to flourish. I treat this as the first "being bullish" trend to which I myself fell a victim of ;-). I had never had an "intimate session" with a computer prior to selecting IT as my course in CET (Common Entrance Test). Swayed by this fact, I began my engineering on a very positive note. Most of my friends would have had a similar temptation if not all, as most of them hailed from middle-class. Even funnier, then there was another "bullish trend" which began to persuade many of my juniormates towards "Electronics" and is still continuing. You can check with the mass among the PU about the course they'd wish to opt, you might get your favourite answer "Electronics" from most of them.

The next "being bullish" trend which I see more often these days is the craze for earning more money ;-), ofcourse who doesn't want "Lakshmi", "Bhagyalakshmi", even I'm not spared :-). Most of the crowd around have a pre-occupied forethought of going for higher studies: MS/MBA and that they are in need of money to complete their aspirations. Everybody wants to be a "master" and not just a "jack" of trade :-).

Another "being bullish" trend which I see is again amongst the youth esp., among the IT crowd is to buy apartments in the "Namma Metro", "Namma Bengalooru" city. The thirst is so profound that many afford to pay more than 4/5th of theirs salaries to EMIs for the loans. The story doesn't end there, it is just the beginning. Their spouses will be equally earning, equally ambitious (and why not ;-), spouses deserve half-the-rights of their counterparts..hehe). Ultimately, both have to lead their lives and stress-out, burn out themselves to such an extent that their thirties will simply go into paying off for the EMIs. I'm not against making this investment but I pity on their efforts to pay off.

The point that I'd wish to make, is why should we follow the "bullish" trend all the time? Do we fall behind if we don't follow it? Or is it that we'd be ill-treated if we don't? Perhaps why, I chose to "Being Gubbi" rather than "Being Bullish" ;-).

True, you need not be Bullish. First ask inner self what you need, then your deeds should get you that. There is one more saying: "ಜನ ಮರುಳೋ, ಜಾತ್ರೆ ಮರುಳೋ.."

Well, it all depends on individual priorities!

I have seen people to go US and eat bread and jam there to save money so that they'll have a lot of money when they come back (If they come back).

You can spend NOW or SAVE now to spend later.

It depends..
